Best Restaurants with Soups in Palo Alto

Do you ever have moments where all you really want is a nice bowl of soup? I know I’ve certainly been there– whether I’m curing a cold, feeling a bit blue, or crave a comforting meal. As a long term Palo Alto resident (I’ve lived here well over 20 years), it’s no doubt that I have a few favorite spots if I need a soup fix.  I’m happy to share my roundup of best soups found in  Palo Alto restaurants.

Clam Chowder at the Fish Market Restaurant

Address: 3150 El Camino Real, Palo Alto, CA 94306 // Website

Anytime I was ever sick as a child, my dad would bring me chowder and sourdough bread from the Fish Market.  The fish market is famous for their signature New England white chowder filled to the brim with potatoes and seafood. If you aren’t in the mood to dine-in, you can quickly grab soup and sourdough bread on the go in their marketplace area. Be sure to ask for extra butter and don’t forget to try using your bread as a spoon for your chowder.

Tofu Soup at the So Dong Gong Tofu House

Address: 4217 El Camino Real, Palo Alto, CA 94306 // Website

I can never turn down a bowl of seafood tofu soup or ramen soup from the So Dong Gong Tofu House.  The seafood tofu soup comes with shrimp, clams, and a healthy helping of oysters made to perfection at your request of spice level. Not feeling seafood? I would try the dumpling soft tofu soup accompanied by Korean rice cakes and beef. Are you a noodle lover like I am? You can also ask to add ramen noodles in any of the soups! As soon as your soup is served, be sure to crack your raw egg into the soup to let it cook.

Daily Soup at the Fambrini’s Cafe

Address: 2600 El Camino Real # 220, Palo Alto, CA 94306 //  Website

Fambrini’s is only open during the weekdays during the day, so be sure to check their hours before you visit. Everything made here (sandwiches, salads, seasonal plates) is flavorful, delicious, and made with care. Pop in and see what kind of daily soup they are serving!

Ramen at Dohatsuten

Address: 799 San Antonio Road, Palo Alto, CA 94303 // Website

No food list of mine is ever complete without a mention of noodles! Try Dohatsuten’s signature ramen, which has spicy garlic minced pork, chashu, and loads of other toppings. Have a little extra stomach room? Try one of their “tapas”, mini donburis, or onigiri’s. I’d spring for the Mentai Takana Donburi (spicy cod roe over rice) or Tan Shio (grilled cow tongue with garlic ponzu).

Dohatsuten’s signature ramen with chashu, chinese chives, bean sprouts, spicy minced pork bamboo shoots and korean chili.

Mussaman Curry at Siam Fine Thai Cuisine

Address: 3924 El Camino Real, Palo Alto, CA 94306 // Website

Every bite of this Mussaman curry instantly transports me back to Thailand. This is a family-owned restaurant that takes pride in showcasing true Thai cooking. Their pork is truly exceptional in the curry– expect a consistent experience loaded with potatoes, onions, and mussaman sauce.

Do you have any favorite soup slurping spots? I want to hear all about it!
