7 Day Self-Guided Tour du Mont Blanc Packing List

7 Day Self-Guided Tour du Mont Blanc Packing List

If you are planning your self-guided Tour du Mont Blanc (TMB) trek, head over to my guide on what you need to know. It’ll cover topics ranging from the trekking season, what it’s like to stay in refuges, to weighing your options between doing a self-guided or company-led trek. I stayed in refuges along the way (and one hotel), carried everything throughout the total trip, and spent a 10 days total in Europe. For more details, you can also see my full 7-day itinerary on the traditional (counterclockwise) Tour du Mont Blanc route.

Tour du Mont Blanc (TMB) is an inspiring 170km trek around the Mont Blanc massif which begins in France and crosses through Italy and Switzerland. It’s no surprise that it is wildly popular in Europe; not all trails were created equal. The Tour du Mont Blanc takes the trekker through unbelievable landscapes via snowy mountain summits and gorgeous green pastures where happy cows slowly graze. Weather can change drastically throughout one day. In the morning you might find yourself in snowy conditions on top of a Col. In the afternoon you could be strolling through a picturesque field.

Keep your layers handy and easily accessible in your backpack. I kept my down jacket clipped to the outside of my pack and my mid-weight fleece on most of the time. The beanie and sunglasses were immensely useful in the snowy peaks. Pictured here are TMB trail friends from Japan and Israel.

Clothing

Keep in mind that you should be packing mostly athletic, lightweight, synthetic clothing that wicks moisture quickly.
