7 Day Self-Guided Tour du Mont Blanc Packing List

7 Day Self-Guided Tour du Mont Blanc Packing List

If you are planning your self-guided Tour du Mont Blanc (TMB) trek, head over to my guide on what you need to know. It’ll cover topics ranging from the trekking season, what it’s like to stay in refuges, to weighing your options between doing a self-guided or company-led trek. I stayed in refuges along the way (and one hotel), carried everything throughout the total trip, and spent a 10 days total in Europe. For more details, you can also see my full 7-day itinerary on the traditional (counterclockwise) Tour du Mont Blanc route.

Tour du Mont Blanc (TMB) is an inspiring 170km trek around the Mont Blanc massif which begins in France and crosses through Italy and Switzerland. It’s no surprise that it is wildly popular in Europe; not all trails were created equal. The Tour du Mont Blanc takes the trekker through unbelievable landscapes via snowy mountain summits and gorgeous green pastures where happy cows slowly graze. Weather can change drastically throughout one day. In the morning you might find yourself in snowy conditions on top of a Col. In the afternoon you could be strolling through a picturesque field.

My packing list is not for the minimalist trekker. It is for the type of traveler and adventurer who has already had a little experience camping/backpacking but also wants to be thoughtfully equipped for any situation. During my trip, I grubbed on the smoothest French cheeses and family-style Italian pasta at the refuges and also treated myself to a fancy dinner of foie gras and escargot. I believe in the power of adventures being fueled by incredible food; it’s very much a part of the story that sticks with me long after I come home. No matter what I end up doing, I strive to be as appropriately dressed as possible. With these items, you will be well prepared for anything that may arise. Remember that you may not end up using everything (first aid, safety whistles, GPS, etc.) but in those rare instances, they may also save your life and you’ll be thankful you brought it.

**Please note that all of these products are my personal recommendations and may contain affiliate links. Your purchase helps to produce thoughtful content on The Petite Adventurer at no additional cost to you. Cheers and many thanks for your support.
