Vietnam Summer Packing List

May can easily be one of the hottest months in Vietnam, particularly in the central region in Hue (the former capital). The country is quite humid, so do expect to be doing a lot of healthy sweating and dabbing your forehead with a wet towelette (often given out at restaurants). Never fear though, because you are in for such a treat. Vietnam has a way of capturing all of your senses, from the sounds of motorbikes conversationally beeping at each other to the taste of salty fish sauce paired with crunchy vegetables. For more on planning logistics of your trip, see my 16 day itinerary of my most recent trip to Saigon, Vung Tau, Dong Hoi, Hue, and Da Nang. This particular packing list is the same one I used to cover activities such as enjoying city life, relaxing in coastal resorts, spelunking in ancient caves, and riding throughout the lush countryside during a two-day motorbike tour.

If you plan on renting a motorbike and have never ridden one before, make sure you learn in a quieter town or city with minimal traffic. The streets of Ho Chi Minh (also known as Saigon) can be insanely hectic! I learned how to ride my bike in the coastal resort town of Vung Tau.
